Message These hoses perform TWO functions.

1) As LitlElvis has already stated, the front hoses in the pcv system vent the crankcase fumes into the accordian pipes when the pcv valves are shut (WOT).

2) They also provide "measured" air (post afm) through the crankcase when the pcv valves are open (idle/cruise)

If you block the accordian pipe connections and put filters on the cam cover hoses, you would have to constantly clean/replace the filters to ensure proper pcv function AND you would always be running slightly lean at idle/cruise, due to the fact you would be introducing additional unmetered air into your system.
